Restore

Forensics explains what happened. We rebuild the person.

After a breach or takeover, the people affected are left with the email, the phone number, the bank, the credit bureaus, and the accounts that shared one password. We work through them with each person, in the right order.

If it is happening now

In immediate danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. Otherwise, contact us from a device and account the other person has never accessed, and do not restore a new phone from an old backup.

The order of work

  1. Secure the primary email

It can reset everything else, so it comes first, on a clean device.

  2. Remove the intruder's access

Trusted devices, recovery numbers, forwarding rules, and connected apps cleared before any password changes.

  3. Recover in order

Each account through the provider's own process, starting with the ones that unlock the most.

  4. Phone, banks, credit, government

Port-out and SIM-change protections turned on where the carrier offers them, cards reissued, fraud reported to the bank, credit frozen by you with our guidance, and IRS, Social Security, and mail forwarding checked.

  5. Cut the footprint

Removal requested for the listings and old accounts that made you a target, to reduce the risk of the same attack working again.

  6. Close out

A dated record of what was done, written so a bank, insurer, or attorney can follow it.

After a mass breach

The same sequence runs for each person on a notification list, scaled to the group and reported back to the organization or its counsel.

How we work with counsel

When a family member dies

A deceased person's identity is often used for fraud because nobody is watching it. Working with the spouse, executor, or whoever has legal authority, we:

  • Guide the spouse or executor in asking a nationwide credit bureau to mark the credit report deceased; the bureau notified tells the other two. A deceased person's credit cannot be frozen, so the deceased flag alerts lenders instead, and it needs a death certificate and proof of authority
  • Close or memorialize email, social, and shopping accounts through each provider's own process
  • Remove their listings from data brokers and people-search sites

Estate and probate questions stay with the estate's attorney.

Limits

  • Providers decide whether an account is returned. We bring the right request, in the right order, with documentation
  • We do not recover money; your bank decides what is returned
  • We are not a credit repair service. Disputes with the credit bureaus are yours to file, at no charge
  • We do not investigate or identify who is responsible. That is for law enforcement or a licensed investigator
